Margaret Hamilton
Margaret Hamilton, Maxwell House, 1976
Percy, everyone's tasting Maxwell House ADC...

Here is Margaret Hamilton (alias Cora) pitching Maxwell House ADC (automatic drip coffee...) for the new coffee-makers, especially the Norelco ones.

Hamilton probably earned as much (little?) as Vivian Vance earned for the life of the contract (about a quarter million dollars)

We know that the Wicked Witch did not earn a lot for her appearance in Oz, so the money probably came in handy. Hamilton was friendly with Dom Delouise, and he described her apartment as modest when he visited her to sample her famous tuna-melt sandwich, a recipe which later appeared in his cookbook (embarrassingly, he referred to her several times in his book as the Wicked Witch of the North).

Baker's Instant Cocoa
Baker's Instant Cocoa Mix, 1951
1, 2, 3, 4 in one...

For a time capsule of early 1950s jingles, hair and clothing style, and product design, this one can't be beat.

Eventually, the "Walter" in "Walter Baker" was dropped from the branding of this, the oldest chocolate manufacturer in the US. It is now owned by Kraft.

Frozen Florida Orange Juice
Frozen Florida Orange Juice, 195?
I'm Flora the Florida orange...

We guess they were trying to make Florida oranges sexy, judging from the opening of this ad.

And then the ad immediately slips back into 1950s wholesomeness, with toothless little Johnny and his OJ-inspired over-acting.

Vivian Vance
Vivian Vance, Maxwell House, 1970s
So...YOU'RE the other woman in his life...

For three years, Vivian Vance was the spokeswoman, Maxine, for Maxwell House coffee.

Maxwell House had a long history of featuring many famous Hollywood stars in its ads, some of which will appear here in the future.

Pepsi Feelin' Free
Pepsi Feelin' Free (Puppies, extended), 1975
There's a feeling around, it's America's sound...

A shorter version of the Pepsi "Puppies" ad has been on the site for several years now.

Here is the full version of the ad, which included two different themes, one involving father-daughter competition and the other involving puppies.

Margaret Hamilton
Maxwell House Coffee with Cora, 1976
My father had a clock just like that...

Here is Cora with friends at an auction, followed by a scene back in her country store...note the cat in the background, lazily muddling through the ad.

Andrea Martin
...and a "Moxwell" House SCTV Spoof...
Thanks for coming...bye-bye...my little pretties...

(Thanks to Tom for the heads-up on this "ad".)

Here is Second City Television's Andrea Martin playing the combo personality of Cora and the Wicked Witch of the West, for "Moxwell House" coffee. Also appearing is Dave Thomas.

Pepsi, Joanie Sommers
Pepsi Medley (Joanie Sommers), 1960s
Come alive...you're in the Pepsi gneration.

We found a pristine copy of Joanie Sommers' "Come Alive" jingle, likely taken from the master tape.

Here it is, set to an ad that had the same theme, but not the identical version of this jingle...close, but not exact.

Tab Diet Cola
Tab Diet Cola, 1966
Like everything now...a little bit crazy.

NOTE: The audio track for this ad is distorted.

In the mid-1960s, paisley was "mod", it was the in thing, it was groovy. Here, the Coca-Cola company took the paisley craze to a new extreme, a bold and effective move.

Tab the Mind Sticker
Tab the Mind Sticker, 196?
Don't you want to have a good shape? He wants you with a good shape...

This ad represents the kind of corporate drivel that was actively promoted in media at the beginning of the women's lib movement in the 1960s. In hindsight, the song lyrics are insipid, reflecting the "conservative" sentiment of a corporate giant that was clueless in its timing, messaging, and historical relevance.

Truly, a mind stinker.

Schlitz
Schlitz, 1965
The beer that made Milwaukee famous.

Standard fare for the Schlitz commercials of the 1960s.

It's comical to see the hat on the guy at the end, a popular style in the early to mid-1960s (especially with golfers and fishermen).
